Espresso con Panna is a simple, delicious, rich and bold Italian coffee drink consisting of espresso with whipped cream.

    What is espresso con panna?

In Italian, espresso con panna literally means espresso with cream.

Also known as caffe con panna.

It's a coffee drink of rich, bold espresso and heavy cream.

You can easily find it at Starbucks, but it's so easy to make it at home.

    Why you'll love this recipe

It's super easy and simple to make!

The drink consists of only 2 ingredients.

It's an indulgent, rich and delicious drink (or dessert) with similarities to affogato (coffee over ice cream).

    Ingredients you'll need

Since there are only 2 ingredients in this drink, it's essential that you use the best quality espresso coffee you can get.

    • double shot of espresso: choose a high-quality espresso that you enjoy
    • whipped cream: you can use store-bought, or make it yourself with heavy whipping cream (at least 36% milkfat), whipped to stiff peaks using a whisk

    Optional additions

If the taste of espresso con panna is too strong, you can add a little sweetener.

Try vanilla syrup, sugar, simple syrup, or maple syrup, to your preference.

You can also add in a vanilla extract for flavoring.

Alternatively, you can sweeten the whipped cream with a little powdered sugar or granulated sugar.

    If you like it stronger

You can add a triple or quad shot of espresso.

Adjust the amount of whipped cream according to your taste.

    Ways to brew espresso

If you have an espresso machine, you can use that.

Not everyone has an espresso machine, so you can brew a very strong coffee using a Moka pot.

    Alternatives

If you don't have espresso, you can still make it with strong coffee or coffee powder.

Try using a sweet cream cold foam instead of whipped cream, which is a mixture of milk and heavy cream, or half-and-half.
