What is cream cold foam?
Otherwise known as sweet cream cold foam, this frothy mixture popularized by Starbucks consists of heavy cream and milk, lightly sweetened with a syrup, usually vanilla.
Is it the same as cold foam?
Cold foam is a thinner, lighter frothed milk (with syrup, but no heavy cream).
Why you'll love this recipe
This recipe for Lavender Cream Cold Foam replaces the vanilla syrup with homemade purple lavender syrup.
It is:
Easy to make: once you've made the lavender syrup, it's a matter of frothing up the cream and milk... super easy!
Fragrant: using a homemade lavender syrup allows you to adjust the amount of lavender in the syrup.
Naturally colored: the purple hue is all-natural, without the use of artificial food coloring.
Luxurious: this lavender cold foam cream is an easy and decadent way to make any drink fancy!
Equipment you'll need
- handheld electric frother: for whipping the cream and milk mixture
- mason jar: you can also use a mason jar (secured with a lid) and shake the mixture if you don't have a frother
Ingredients you'll need
- lavender syrup: for a purple-colored cream, you'll need to use a purple-hued lavender syrup
- heavy whipping cream: at least 36% milkfat, cold
- whole milk
You can find these ingredients at your local grocery store. For lavender syrup, you can find it online, in specialty baking stores or at farmer's markets.
How to make it
Combine heavy cream, whole milk and lavender syrup in a tall mason jar.
Use an electric handheld frother to froth the mixture, just until aerated and slightly foamy. Be careful not to overwhip.
Add to your favorite coffee, matcha tea latte, or any drink you like.
How to use
Use the lavender cream cold foam on any drink you like.
It pairs well with espresso/coffee-based drinks and tea such as matcha or chai.
How to store
Store the lavender cream cold foam in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
Be sure to give the mixture a stir before using, as the cream will separate from the milk.
Do not freeze the lavender cold foam as the texture will change.
Expert tips & FAQs
What if I overwhipped the cold foam?
Add in a little whole milk to thin it out and swirl gently.
The cream separated.
Totally normal. This can happen when the cold foam has been sitting for a little while.
Just give the mixture a little stir with a spoon.
How to add more purple color to the cream?
The natural color of this lavender cold foam will be lighter than the Starbucks version.
Depending on how you colored the lavender syrup (fresh berries or butterfly pea), you can adjust the color by adding a touch of blueberry juice, blackberry juice, black current juice, or purple gel food coloring.

Oh how wonderful! I love everything floral, especially lavender, so this recipe is calling my name. And maybe a rose-infused version, too. Also, loving your beautiful photos and pastel colours.

I'm intrigued by this idea of making cold foam at home! It certainly sounds easy enough, and I love how easily you can mix up the flavor profiles. Pistachio cold foam needs to be a thing!
Michelle
It's really easy to make! A pistachio one sounds nutty and delicious.. would probably need to use a pistachio extract. Thanks David!
