    Why you'll love this recipe

This recipe for Pumpkin Spice Hojicha Latte is an autumnal version of my Iced Hojicha Latte.

It's super easy to make, using a flavorful homemade pumpkin spice hojicha syrup.

Similar to Iced Matcha Chai Latte, the flavours of warming pumpkin spice pairs well with the smoky flavour of hojicha tea.

It's versatile -- you can omit the ice and heat up the milk to make a warm version.

    What is hojicha?

Hojicha is a roasted green tea that has a warm, smoky flavour.

It is similar to matcha, however, unlike matcha, it contains minimal caffeine.

    What does hojicha taste like?

Hojicha has a slightly sweet and smoky taste -- a little nutty, similar to coffee but without the bitterness.

Read more about this roasted green tea in my Beginner's Guide to Hojicha.

    What is pumpkin spice?

Pumpkin spice is also known as "pumpkin pie spice" and refers to a blend of spices used in pumpkin pie.

    It generally contains:

    • cinnamon
    • ginger
    • nutmeg
    • cloves
    • allspice

Pumpkin spice hojicha latte with whipped cream in a glass with straw.

    How to make it

Add hojicha to a glass or bowl.

Pour in hot water and whisk until frothy.

Add 1-2 tablespoon Pumpkin Spice Hojicha Syrup to a tall glass.

Place ice cubes in the glass and pour in hojicha tea.

Top with milk of your choice.

Add whipped cream and additional hojicha powder if you wish.

Stick in a straw, stir well and enjoy.

    Tips & tricks

If you don't have a matcha whisk/bamboo whisk, you can use an electric frother.

For extra foam, you can also froth the milk.

Be sure to stir well before enjoying, as the hojicha powder along with the pumpkin spices may be a little grainy.

Add a shot of espresso or coffee to make it a caffeinated version.

Well this certainly is fun! I love both of those main flavors, so it makes perfect sense to combine them. The smoky flavor combined with the pumpkin spice makes me think of an autumn bonfire! 🙂
