What does "dirty" mean?
In the world of drinks, the term "dirty" means adding something that darkens the drink, typically coffee or espresso.
For example: Dirty Matcha Latte, or Dirty Chai.
Why you'll love this recipe
This Dirty Earl Grey Latte is where the best of both worlds collide -- floral, citrusy Earl Grey tea and rich, roasted espresso.
If you've ever had a London Fog, think of this as its bolder, moodier cousin.
It's smooth, aromatic, and creamy with just the right caffeine kick to get you through the day.
Tea meets coffee: similar to Matcha Espresso Fusion, this drink is a perfect balance of bergamot-forward Earl Grey and bold espresso.
Not too sweet: naturally floral and lightly sweetened.
Easy to make: skip the coffee shop line and make it at home in minutes.
Elevated yet simple: feels fancy, but uses pantry-friendly ingredients.

Ingredients you'll need
- Earl Grey tea: tea bag or loose leaf
- hot water: for the tea
- Earl Grey syrup: or sub in vanilla syrup or lavender syrup
- milk: dairy or non-dairy alternative
- shot of espresso (about 1 oz): or ¼ C strong brewed coffee
How to make a dirty earl grey latte
For hot:
Steep Earl Grey tea in hot water for 3-5 minutes.
Remove the tea bag or strain out the leaves.
Stir in Earl Grey syrup while warm (or other sweetener).
Heat milk on the stove or froth using a frother until warm and foamy.
Pour the Earl Grey tea into a mug.
Add steamed milk and stir gently. Slowly pour the espresso shot over the top.
For iced:
Brew the Earl Grey tea, add in Earl Grey syrup while warm. Let cool.
To a tall glass, add ice cubes.
Pour in the Earl Grey tea, milk, and finish with a shot of hot espresso.

How to serve
Give the dirty earl grey latte a stir and enjoy immediately.
Expert tips
Use double bergamot Earl Grey tea if you want a stronger citrus aroma, or add in a drop of culinary bergamot oil.
For a vegan version, use oat milk or soy milk.
Add a touch of lavender syrup or vanilla syrup (or vanilla extract) to enhance the floral notes.
No espresso machine? Brew strong coffee using an AeroPress or moka pot, or use instant espresso powder.
If you prefer more coffee, you can add another espresso shot -- however, it may overpower the earl grey tea.
