What is a Kit Kat bar?
Similar to Coffee Crisp Bars, they are a sweet confectionary featuring layers of vanilla wafers covered with chocolate.
There are "fingers" of wafers that are joined together but can be snapped off individually.
Why you'll love this recipe
This recipe is easy to make, and uses store-bought vanilla wafers for convenience.
These Homemade Kit Kat Bars are not too sweet, since we're using high quality dark chocolate.
You'll only need 2 ingredients to make these at home, which is even less than my Matcha Kit Kat Bars!
2 ingredients you'll need
- dark chocolate: chopped; use the best quality chocolate you can find, at least 72%; or you can use milk chocolate if you prefer
- vanilla wafers: I used wafers from Great Value, which have minimal ingredients
How to make it
Place vanilla wafers on a cutting board (Step 1 below).
Split 2 vanilla wafers in half lengthwise so you have 4 "finger" pieces (Step 2 below).
In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the dark chocolate in 20-30 second increments until melted.
Stir the chocolate mixture.
Use an offset spatula to coat the surface of the vanilla wafer "fingers" (this will now be the "bottom") with the melted chocolate and repeat with the remainder.
Place into the freezer or fridge for the chocolate to set.
Once set, flip the vanilla wafer "fingers" so the chocolate side is on the bottom.
Use an offset spatula to coat the surface and sides of the vanilla wafer with the remaining chocolate (Step 3 below).
Pop the tray back into the freeze or fridge for the chocolate to set, about 5-10 minutes.
To join the two Kit Kats together, add a bit of chocolate to the bottom of the Kit Kat fingers and "glue" together (Step 4 below).
How to store
Wrap and store the Homemade Kit Kat Bars in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Freeze the chocolate bars well wrapped in plastic wrap and in an airtight container for up to 1 month.
You can enjoy the Kit Kat Bars from frozen.
Expert tips

Kit Kat is another my favourite chocolate candy bar along with Coffee Crisp, so this is soooo right up my alley!

Kit Kat bars are such a favorite and especially the dark chocolate ones. Never really thought of making them myself and love the inspiration here!

What a fun (and easy!) recipe idea. We were just eating a Kit Kat the other night and talking about how tasty it was. Using vanilla wafers as the base makes this such an easy recipe. Definitely putting this on the list of things to try!!
