Ingredients

  • 250 ml whole milk lukewarm
  • 30 g granulated sugar
  • 6 g active dry yeast
  • 400 ml all-purpose flour or bread flour
  • 60 ml unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

Make the dough:

  • In a small bowl, combine warmed milk, granulated sugar, yeast and give it a stir. Set aside until the yeast starts to activate and become bubbly.
  • In a stand mixer bowl, combine flour, melted butter, egg, salt and yeast mixture and knead until a dough starts to form.
  • Continue kneading (about 10-15 minutes) until the dough comes together and is elastic and smooth. It will be a little on the sticky side, but it will come together as you knead it.
  • Remove the dough from the mixer bowl and place into a lightly greased bowl.
  • Cover and leave in a warm location until doubled in size.

Shape:

  • Once risen, punch down the dough, divide and shape into 12 round balls, about 60g each.
  • Place the shaped dough balls onto a parchment lined 9" by 13" baking tray.
  • Cover and leave to proof until almost doubled in size, about 20-30 minutes, depending on how warm your kitchen is.

Bake:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F/177°C.
  • Bake at 350°F/177°C for 18-20 mins, or until an instant-read thermometer reads 200°F in the middle of the buns.
  • Remove from oven and cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve warm and fresh.
