Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup (Pho Bo)

Vietnamese Beef PhoIt’s the end of February and it’s snowing (again). Snow is probably the last thing you associate with Vancouver since it rains much more than it snows here. In fact, it gets nicknamed “Raincouver.” Or how about the “Wet Coast?”

But there is an upside to all the dreary drizzle… you’re in the mood to make and eat a bowl of hot, steaming beef noodle soup. In our household, it’s Vietnamese beef pho. It’s one of my favourite foods to eat, especially when it’s cold and wintery outside. (more…)

Matcha Milk Jam/Green Tea Milk Spread

Matcha Milk Green Tea SpreadIt’s funny how you learn about new things nowadays. Especially on social media. Everything is so fast-paced; this minute it’s in, the next minute, it’s out. I first saw Korean matcha milk spread on Instagram, and when my friend was in Korea, I messaged her to ask her to bring one home for me. Sheng Jian Bao 生煎包/Pan-Fried Pork Buns

Sheng Jian BaoThere is a Shanghainese restaurant in Edmonton named “Shanghai 456” which my brother-in-law would frequent quite regularly for their Xiao Long Bao (小笼包) aka “XLB” and noodle dishes. But one time, he convinced us to go on a Sunday. It turned out that the owners would have a special item on the menu that you couldn’t order any other day of the week. That item was Sheng Jian Bao (生煎包), also known as Pan-fried pork buns.  (more…)
